This event is normally played at Quail Hollow but was played at TPC Potomac in 2022 as Quail Hollow was being used for the Presidents Cup later in the year. Ignore the 2022 results if looking at course form.
This event was not played in 2020 due to the pandemic and the course was not used in 2017 as it hosted the US PGA Championship later that year.
The course was changed to a par 71 from par 72 in 2017.
Quail Hollow is the longest par 71 on the PGA Tour.

Winning Score
Since the switch to a par 71, the event has been won with scores of -19, -10, -12 and -15. We should expect a winning score in this range.
Course Form
Wyndham Clark had only finished 43-MC before his win last year. Rory was a previous course winner with a terrific record at Quail Hollow. Homa won in 2019 with minimal course form (a MC and a 76th place finish). James Hahn triumphed in 2016 having never bettered 50th in three attempts. Derek Ernst won in 2013 and Rory McIlroy won in 2010 making their debuts at the event. However, the other five course champions between 2010 - 2019 all recorded a top 10 at Quail Hollow prior to winning.
Recent Form
Three of the past seven course champions had recorded a top 20 in their last start prior to winning. Of the other four, Clark had three top 10's in hsi previous five starts, McIlroy had missed the cut on his previous start at the Masters, Max Homa had placed 42nd at the Texas Open the week prior in 2019 and James Hahn won after missing his previous eight cuts in 2016!

The par 5's (7th, 10th and 15th) play as three of the four easiest holes. The driveable par 4 14th hole generally plays as one of the easiest holes too.
Fast or Slow Start
Wyndham Clark was the only one of the last seven winners has been inside the top 16 after round one. Rory McIlroy was EIGHT shots behind after round one in 2021!
Six of the past seven champions have been inside the top 5 after round two.
Five of the last seven Wells Fargo champions to have won at Quail Hollow have led going into the final round. McIlroy won in 2021 from two shots back and James Hahn won in 2016 when coming from 3rd after 54 holes.

The course is began to firm up which affected scoring. Only Rory McIlroy and Sepp Straka were able to break 69.

Round 4 Outright Market Summary
There are realistically only four players who can now win this, with Jason Day in 5th place seven shots behind Schauffele. McIlroy has closed the gap at the top to one shot after two bogey free rounds in a row, and there isn't much to seperate them at the head of the market. Rory appears to have the momentum but our preview highlighted that five of the last seven Wells Fargo champions to have won at Quail Hollow have led going into the final round. If Xander extends his lead early on, it could make life tough for Rory.
Both players rank 1st and 2nd tee to green but we shouldn't dismiss Im and Straka. McIlroy and Schauffele haen't won a strokeplay event on American soil since October 2022 and both have spurned varios opportunities since. It's possible they have a slow start and drag each other down.

Round 3 Outright Market Summary
As we expressed yesterday, Schauffele and McIlroy have maintained their strong start and Schauffele has shortened even further to 4/5. It's going to be difficult for the field to catch him with only six players within six shots, but it's a strong group and Schauffele may be worth opposing on the exchange at odds on. As consistent as he is, he is not a regular winner with his last victory coming in Scotland in July 2022.

Round 2 Outright Market Summary
Schauffele is 2/1 favourite having opened up and early three shot lead whilst McIlroy is 4/1 as one of those sitting in T2nd. Both were splendid with their approach play, ranking 1st and 3rd, and they be tough to beat if they keep that up. With Morikawa and Thomas present on the leaderboard too, it feels very likley this event will be won by one of the favourites and we are hesitant to get too involved.

Xander Schauffele 2nd Round Leader 11/10 @ Unibet/Bet MGM - Schauffele holds a handsome lead and ranked significantly higher tee to green than the rest of the field. He is such a consistent type, it's hard to see him lose a lead of this size over 18 holes, we expected to see a best price of odds on here.
