2024 U.S. Open Trends
Winning Score
The US Open winning score has varied significantly over the years. Since 2008 we have seen scores range from +1 to -16.
Price of Winner
Wyndham Clark (2023) and Gary Woodland (2019) are the only winners to start in excess of 50/1 in the past 11 years.
Course Form
Most players will have limited playing experience here but it won't hurt those with fond memories of the 2014 U.S. Open or 2019 U.S. Amateur.
Recent Form
Five of the past eight champions had recorded a top 10 in their last two starts. Last year's champion, Wyndham Clark, didn't meet this criteria with only a top 12 in his las two starts but he did win three events prior to lifting the U.S. Open trophy.
Nationality
Seven of the last nine winners have been from the USA but Europeans have won five of the last thirteen events.
Age
The US Open has been a younger man's Major in recent times with the last 15 winners being 35 or less on the day they lifted the trophy. Of those 15, fourteen were under 32.
Major Virgins
It has also been an event which has favoured first time Major winners in recent years with 12 of the past 15 claiming their first Major. However, it's not an event to record your first ever win in America - only two winners from the past 15 did not have a previous PGA Tour title.
US Open Exposure
As with the Open Championship, prior experience of playing in a US Open is essential. In the last 14 years, only two players have won a US Open without previously having a top-25 finish, and every winner in the last 14 years has made at least one previous US Open appearance.
World Ranking
2023: Three of the top four were 9th or better int he world rankings. The exception? The winner, Wyndham Clark, who was 32nd.
2022: Every player tied for fifth or better ranked inside the top 20 in the world golf rankings.
2021: Only one of the top 5 was ranked outside the top 25 in the world - Guido Migliozzi (107th). The other four were all established winners.
2020: The top 5 at Winged Foot last year comprised three players inside the world's top 30 and two who had previously won on the PGA Tour. It is a similar story through the years:
2019: The top 6 comprised five players within the world's top 30 and one player who had won on the PGA Tour before.
2018: Four of the top 5 were in the world's top 30 and the other player, Tony Finau (ranked 37th), had won on the PGA Tour before.
2017: The top seven comprised four players inside the top 30. Two had won on the PGA Tour before and one who had not won but would win twice later that year (Xander Schauffele)
2016: Four of the top six were inside the top 30 and the other two had both won on the PGA Tour before.

SG: Around The Green
Wyndham Clark was 7th last year, whilst Matt Fitzpatrick was 1st around the greens in 2022. However, Bryson DeChambeau (ranked 5th in 2020) is the only other champion in the last seven years to rank inside the top 10 for SG: Around The Green.
U.S. Open In Play Tactics
Fast or Slow Start
Of the past 25 U.S. Open winners, 22 have been within four shots of the lead after round one.
US Open winners more often than not come from the 3rd round leader or those closest to him. Thirteen of the past sixteen winners have been first or second after 54 holes.
2024 US Open Course Quotes
"They (the green) are extremely fast. If they get any firmer and faster, the greens, I mean, they'd be borderline. They already are borderline (playable)." Wyndham Clark, 2024
"Quite a few holes, one side is a little more penal than the other. It's hit or miss. The way we're looking at it, is if you hit, I don't know, 15 drives for the week in the native area, you're going to get some bad lies, some good lies; you just got to take it from there." Webb Simpson, 2024

2024 U.S. Open Round 3 Conditions
Sunny with a gentle breeze. Lightening greens caused the players trouble again..
2024 U.S. Open Round 4 Weather Bias?
No bias. The weather looks to be consistent throughout the day, with winds of 5-10mph and cloudy most of the day.
Round 4 Outright Market Summary
DeChambeau has moved into pole position, taking a three shot lead after a tidy 67. It all looks set up for Bryson to win his 2nd U.S. Open and you can still get odds of 10/11 on him to do so. Bryson shot the round of the day when in contention at Valhalla last month and was unlucky not to catch Xander Schauffele. He was also knocking on the door at the Masters, leading after rounds one and two before finishing 6th. Two wins towards the end of last year in different style show Bryson is usually comfortable in contention and we expect him to close this out now. US Open winners more often than not come from the 3rd round leader or those closest to him and thirteen of the past sixteen winners have been first or second after 54 holes.
To keep that trend going, it would mean Rory McIlroy shouldn't be dismissed yet but it's difficult to predict which Rory will show up. He looked flawless on Thursday but there have been more signs of weakness in the last couple of days and he will likely need some help from the leader. Everyone has expected Pavon to fall away but he's held himself well whereas this might suit Patrick Cantlay aiming to emulate Schauffele winning his first major with the pressure off.
Ludvig Aberg will be seeking to bounce back from a disappointing day and we're hopeful our pre-event pick Hideki Matsuyama can make a charge from five back, he came from further back at Riviera this year which will be a fond memory for him. Ultimately though, we expect Bryson to close this out in style.

Winning Margin 5+ shots - 7/1 @ Betfred
Bryson is currently three clear but this isn't a course you need to be chasing and we expect to see the chasing pack make errors on the back nine. This could ultimately lead to Bryson extending his lead. He won the U.S. Open by six in 2020 at Winged Foot, despite starting round three two back, and the price for a repeat here looks too big.

2024 U.S. Open Round 2 Conditions
Sunny with a gentle breeze once again. The course is beginning to firm up.
2024 U.S. Open Round 3 Weather Bias?
The weather looks to be consistent throughout the day, with winds of 5-10mph and sunshine.
Round 3 Outright Market Summary
Ludvig Aberg heads up the market at a best price of 10/3 . The young Swede is making his U.S. Open debut but that doesn't appear to be fazing him and has so far used his advantage off the tee to propel himself to the top of the leaderboard. Aberg tops the SG: Off The Tee stats through the opening two rounds but he looks to be strong in every department and he will be tough to beat over the weekend. It certainly bodes well for Aberg that he contended for the Masters in April and has recent experience of dealing with the pressure of being in and around the top of the leaderboard in a Major.
There are plenty of top class players chasing Aberg and he likely won't have things his own way over the weekend. One lapse in concentration can easily lead to a double or triple bogey and past Major winners, Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau (both 9/2), are particular threats. McIlroy tops the SG: Tee to Green stats through two rounds but a cold putter has seen him fall two shots behind.
Four of the last five winners of the U.S. Open have been inside the top five at the halfway point and with a low score hard to come by, it will take a special round from those not already under par to work their way into contention over the weekend.
Eye Catching Niche Market Prices - The U.S. Open
Shane Lowry over 72.5 shots in Round 3 - Evens @ Bet365
Lowry has the worst tee to green stats of anyone who made the cut and has been reliant on his putter to see him through to the weekend so far. With scoring likely to get tougher in general as the course firms up, Lowry could well replicate his opening round of 74. Even money on Lowry to shoot 73 or worse looks to be a fair price.

2024 U.S. Open Round 1 Conditions
Perfect golfing conditions however the speed of the greens made for a tough test. The course was tough but fair.
2024 U.S. Open Round 2 Weather Bias?
The forecast is for some morning rain which should soften the course slightly but the wind shouldn't be too much of a factor. Afternoon starters may have a slight advantage if the forecast plays out.
Round 2 Outright Market Summary
Rory McIlroy has taken over as 5/2 favourite whilst Scottie Scheffler has drifted to 13/2 after a sluggish start. McIlroy will now have to manage a lot of pressure as he chases his first major since 2014, but every aspect of his game looked sharp yesterday and he appears to be in a good place after getting his marriage back on track.
Scheffler definitely has his work cut out now, not only because he's six behind McIlroy, but he's also given the likes of Patrick Cantlay, Ludvig Aberg and Bryson DeChambeau a big head start. Making up ground is always difficult in the U.S. Open - of the past 25 U.S. Open winners, 22 have been within four shots of the lead after round one.
Eye Catching Niche Market Prices - The U.S. Open
Bryson DeChambeau Top LIV Golfer 23/20 @ Bet365 - Bryson has a one shot lead in this market currently and Brooks Koepka rates as his biggest challenger. Koepka refused to do his press conference yesterday after a poor finish to his round, which isn't a great sign heading into the second round. We're not convinced Tyrrell Hatton has the patience to sustain a challenge here and Bryson looked in full control of his game yesterday.
