Significant Info To Be Aware Of
Rich Harvest Farms hosted a LIV event in 2022 but it has hosted a number of amateur events and also hosted the 2009 Solheim Cup.
Rich Harvest Farms Course Notes
Rich Harvest Farms originally started as a six hole layout for owner, Jerry Rich, to practice. That soon evolved into a nine hole course before expanding into a conventional 18 hole setup. The nature of the design means that holes can play differently each day but the scorecard this week tops out at 7,408 yards.
This week's event will adopt a slightly different hole rotation to the scorecard. The four par 5s on the normal layout are the 2nd, 9th, 11th and 16th. However, this week the four par 5s are the 2nd, 7th, 11th and 18th holes.
Rich Harvest Farms may have been created in an unconventional manner but it has consistently ranked inside the top 90 (highest ranking - 45th) of Golf Digest's Top 100 course in the USA. Having opened in 1999, it hosted the 2009 Solheim Cup and a number of prestigious amateur events including the Arnold Palmer Cup (twice) and the 2017 NCAA National Golf Championships.
It is not known how many members the course currently has but at the time of the 2009 Solheim Cup there were approximately 50 members, only two more people than will tee it up this week!
2022 LIV Golf Chicago Quotes
"It's a really good golf course. I played the Palmer Cup, as you said, last year, so I played this golf course around 10 times now, so yeah, I know every hole pretty good. Yeah, I would say you've got to -- especially with pretty much every golf course, obviously, but in this one you have to drive the ball pretty good, and if you're in position, I would say it's not very long, so there's plenty of birdie opportunities, but greens can get a little tough if you're not in the right spot. Even if you can hit it on the green, lag putts can be pretty tough." David Puig
"There's some quirky holes out here that we all have to strategize and take care of and just execute great golf shots, but if you can plot your way around this golf course and give yourself a couple opportunities at par-5s, you can shoot pretty low out here." Bryson DeChambeau
"This is my first time here. I love it. I think the course is great. I think it played great today, firming up a little bit. I suppose it is a little bit different. I think the par-3s are pretty key out here. There's a couple of funky greens that you have to get used to. A lot of kind of funky chip shots, I guess, around the green, and just long lag putts uphill. There's a lot of those out there again today. A little bit different, but I think all three of us have learned to fast track a golf course pretty quickly." Cameron Smith
"I've really enjoyed Rich Harvest Farms as a venue for here because it's first of all in great shape and it has a wonderful mixture of holes that are really good birdie opportunities and then some really tough pars. I ended up making a triple on No. 3. It has the potential on a number of holes to make a big number like that, but you also have a chance to recover with a lot of birdie holes, and I think it's fun to play. It is a course that you really want to play a dozen or so times to really learn all the nuances because there's so many nuances in these big huge greens and so forth, but it's fun to play." Phil Mickelson
"I'll tell you what, it's a lot wider than I remember. There used to be a lot of trees out there. It was pretty nasty. It's a little bit more generous off the tee than what I remember. There used to be an astroturf tee on one of those holes. I think we're playing it the 4th hole, but I think that hole used to have an astroturf tee. But now I guess they've removed some trees so grass can actually grow." Peter Uihlein
2009 Solheim Cup Quotes
"The course is a great -- the course is great. It's in very, very good shape. Obviously there hasn't been too many players out here before we got here. There's only 50 members here.
It's literally -- as soft as it is right now, the fairways are fairly wide, I would say. The greens, I would say, there's small undulations and sort of slopes on the front nine compared to the back nine. Some par-5s are reachable. There's some good, solid par-4s out there. So I mean, if it stays wet, it's going to play long, which I think is good for us. We have a lot of good ball strikers on our team. We can hit the ball high and soft and kind of shape it both ways. Front nine you have a few more doglegs in corners, and I think on the front nine you've just got to make sure you're positioned to attack the pin." Suzann Pettersen
"It's a pretty wide-open golf course. You miss the fairways, you're in very thick rough. These greens are humongous. I think it comes down to somebody with great iron, the ability to take a little off, put a little bit more on irons, put them in the right sections of these greens. The speed of these greens, hopefully by Friday they want them to be around a 12. They can definitely get to that. I think that they're very close." Paula Creamer
"It's also a golf course that you have to be able to hit the ball both ways, left to right, right to left." Beth Daniel
2023 LIV Golf Chicago Picks
0.75pts Each Way David Puig 55/1 @ BetVictor (1/5 1-5)
Phil Mickelson commented that "is a course that you really want to play a dozen or so times to really learn all the nuances because there's so many nuances in these big huge greens and so forth". It's interesting to see that David Puig was played this course over 10 times now due to his Palmer Cup participation. He has also been staying competitive, playing three Asian Tour events where he finished 11-14-4. Two top 5's in his last four LIV starts show how fast this kid is progressing and this looks a good venue for is big hitting game.
0.75pts Each Way Peter Uihlein 60/1 @ Skybet/888sport (1/5 1-5)
We had a quick chat with Uihlein after his 30th place finish at the St Andrews Bay Championship a few weeks ago and he indicated that he was a big fan of the course at Rich Harvest Farms, a thought backed up by his 2nd place finish there last year. That 30th place finish in St Andrews could have been so much better were it not for eight dropped shots in seven holes on the Saturday and Uihlein suggested that he would be working on his game in the lead up to this week's event. Uihlein looks a lively runner this week.
0.5pts Each Way Matt Jones 90/1 @ BetVictor (1/5 1-5)
Jones looks to have been overlooked by the bookmakers after a strong couple of weeks on the Asian Tour, finishing 4th and 2nd. It's his best finishes since a 6th place in Tuscon back in March and will surely give him some momentum heading into the final few LIV events. A 16th place at this course last year was his best LIV finish of the year and he can improve on that this week.
