Trends
Winning score
Four of the five Thailand Golf Championships held at Amata Spring had winning scores in excess of -21. The lowest score was -25. However, it should be noted that in 2014, the course setup was markedly different, with "US Open style rough" according to Andrew Pitts, General Manager of Amata Spring in 2014. The winning score that year was -8.
Amata Spring Player Quotes
"The last few holes on this golf course are very difficult." Seve Ballesteros
"We have difficult pin locations for each of the four days. If we do not have wind then there is little “defence” against the best players in the world. There is no need to “trick up” a golf course. Let the players shoot a good score if they drive the ball in the fairway, hit quality iron shots and putt well. Let them be rewarded for their good play. It will be a different story this year if players do not drive the ball well. The rough will be more challenging this year. The rough at this year’s tournament will rival a traditional US Open-style set-up. You will see players hitting wedges out of the rough just to put the ball back into play." Andrew Pitt, General Manager, Amata Spring - 2014
"Both nines start with a few easy holes and then tey get tougher towards the end......I found it generous off the tee, there is a lot of water so you have to keep that in mind but it does feel like it's a large landing area. I don't think driving is going to be the toughest part of the golf course. I think a low score is going to win this week so those second shots in have to be pretty accurate." Rafa Cabrera Bello, 2023
