BMW International Open Trends
Winning score
Before last year, the winning score had been between -15 and -19 however we saw a playoff with -22 last edition. We should expect a figure near the 20's to be winning.
Winning Profile
Tong Li came into the event ranked 264th in the world whilst 2021 winner Hovland was ranked 14th. Pavan was ranked 129th in the world before his win in 2019 but not in any special form. Romero in 2017 could barely make a cut and was ranked 837th. Larrazabal was 111th in average form in 2015 and 180th in strong form for his win in 2011. Els won in 2013 the week after finishing 4th at the US Open. There is no set profile for the winner here.
Correlating Courses
The Belfry is similar in style but slightly tougher, whereas The Green Eagle used for the European Open a few weeks ago could also be a nice guide - Tong Li warmed up with an 18th place finish there before his win.
Course form
The last two winners - Tong Li and Hovland - were making their debuts, Pavan only had a missed cut, Romero had two top 30's, Larrazabal was a previous winner and Els had a great record here before his win. Overall, course form is not essential to succeed.
Recent form
Tong Li arrived with an 18th and 37th in his last two starts. The previous four winners all arrived in mediocre form. Before that, Els and Larrazabal were in form Recent form is preferred but not essential.
Nationality
No UK player has won here since David Horsey in 2010.
BMW International Open Stats Analysis

Driving Distance
92-22-17-49-84-80. You don't have to bomb it.
Driving Accuracy
86-95-39-87-8-45. Driving Accuracy isn't perceived as essential either.
SG: Off the tee
19-3-14-73-9-N/A. No stats are available for Bland in 2017. Pavan won here with relatively poor figures however strong driving is an advantage generally.
SG: Approach
30-17-35-19-28-N/A. Strong iron play is important.
SG: Around the greens
40-12-91-27-43-N/A. Not a key stat this week.
SG: Putting
21-22-1-23-42-N/A. As always it helps to putt well, Hovland's winning score was built with the putter.
Tee to green
Tong Li and Pieters were 1st and 2nd on the leaderboard and this category in 2022.

2023 BMW International Open Round 3 Summary
A blemish free round of 65 was enough to give Joost Luiten a three stroke lead going into the final round of the BMW International Open.
Notable Round 3 BMW International Open Quotes
"Today was pretty much flawless. I didn't really get into trouble that much and if I did miss the fairway I hit a great shot and still created a birdie chance. I made some nice birdies coming down the last four or five holes and it was nice. It would mean a lot to me to win but that's not just me, that's everybody. We've got another 18 holes here and I need to keep my head cool, hit some shots like I did today and we'll see what happens. I'll try to play shot by shot like I did today." Joost Luiten
"It was very good considering the fact I probably hit the ball worse than the last two days. I finally had a good day on the greens today and it was good. I don't like to think in if and what, I've been struggling on the greens for a long time and today I finally had a good day on the greens, probably the best day in the last six years." Edoardo Molinari
2023 BMW International Open Round 4 Weather
Sunny. Wind 6-8mph.
Back or Lay The Favourite?
Joost Luiten is a best price 4/6 to convert his three stroke lead.
Luiten has held the third round lead on seven occasions on the DP World Tour and lifted the trophy in four of those events. He's a player who has shown he's capable of front running and will be difficult to beat. The Dutchman leads the SG: Tee to Green stats this week and is clearly enjoying working with coach Jamie Gough.
It should be mentioned that Luiten's last third round lead was the 2020 Oman Open and he would go on to finish tenth. The field will be hoping for a repeat performance.
Despite reservations over Luiten's lack of recent front running experience, he's very much the man to beat in our opinion.
In-Play BMW International Open Bets We Considered
Daniel Hillier has been priced up at even money by Bet365 to win the par 5 scoring in his two ball with Rikuya Hoshino and that made significant appeal. Hillier has outperformed his Japanese opponent over the opening three rounds, playing the longer holes in six under par over the first three days. Hoshino has only played the par 5s in a total three under, never bettering one under par on any of the days. Hillier has been outperforming Hoshino off the tee so far this week and that superiority off the tee could see him land he money.

2023 BMW International Open Round 2 Summary
The wind picked up significantly in the afternoon, causing players a considerable amount of problems. As such, the top three on the leaderboard were all morning starters.
Notable Round 2 BMW International Open Quotes
"I'm generally a really, really good iron player," he said. "I'm a little streaky putter. I think my bad days with the putter needs to get better. But overall, just a solid ball striker and a really good long iron player. My putter really started to heat up today. I made some nice putts and I'm just happy to be where I'm at right now." Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen
"I need to stay patient coming down the stretch. I was pretty good at KLM, maybe one or two birdies more and I think I bogeyed 16 or 15 and that kind of took me out of it, unfortunately. If I'm in that situation again, just make sure I stick to my gameplan, don't try and think too much. And if the results come my way, then I'm really pleased. Pretty tough conditions out there. Breeze is definitely up and making it tricky. Pretty swirling winds as well." Daniel Hillier
2023 BMW International Open Round 3 Weather
Sunny intervals. Wind 6-8mph.
Back or Lay The Favourite?
Daniel Hillier (11/2) edges favouritism ahead of Joost Luiten, who is priced up at 13/2.
The last three course winners have all been inside the top five at the halfway stage and given Hillier ranks 2nd SG: Tee to Green, there is every chance he contends on Sunday. However, the 11/2 feels fractionally short for a player who has yet to win on Tour and went backwards over the weekend at the KLM Open a few weeks ago.
In-Play BMW International Open Bets We Considered
Marc Hammer became the first golfer ever to win two ranking events in the same week when winning on the Challenge Tour and Pro Golf Tour last year. He looks like a player who can get hot and stay hot and his eighth place finish last week on the Challenge Tour along with some impressive stats so far this week (4th SG: Tee to Green) mark him out as someone of interest at 55/1.

2023 BMW International Open Round 1 Summary
The morning starters dominate the leaderboard with eight of the top nine teeing off early. Adrian Meronk was one of the best scorers in the afternoon and is two off the lead. Lightening stopped play early and some players still have three holes remaining.
Notable Round 1 BMW International Open Quotes
"I’m a little bit disappointed to be honest because I hit the ball fantastic tee-to-green, but putting, again, wasn’t good at all. You can’t complain with a six under so I’ll take it, move on and try to improve the putting. " Eduardo Molinari
"I was feeling good about my game in the last few weeks. I played well at the Porsche European Open, I had two weeks off to work on my game and I just feel like each part of my game is quite nice. " Adrien Saddier
2023 BMW International Open Round 2 Weather
Mostly cloudy and very windy with scattered showers. Wind gusts 25-30mph.
Back or Lay The Favourite?
Adrian Meronk remains 9/1 favourite and makes some appeal at that price given his strong start. An early start tomorrow would usually be an advantage but the forecast suggests the wind may drop in the afternoon so that is putting us off.
In-Play BMW International Open Bets We Considered
With the wind set to cause carnage tomorrow, we want to side with strong wind players. Romain Langasque, Pablo Larrazabal and Sami Valimaki all made the shortlist. For those of you with Betfair/Paddy Power accounts, their stand out price of 200/1 on Sean Crocker looks a great price and we wouldn't put anyone off that.
