2011 Volvo Golf Champions at The Royal Golf Club
Stats don't exist for this event, which was won by Paul Casey on 20 under par. In tied 2nd place were accurate operators Miguel Jiminez and Peter Hanson on 19 under par, suggesting this course doesn't need to be overpowered,
2011 Volvo Golf Champions Course Quotes
"Colin Montgomerie designed both the dramatic, championship 18-hole course and the stunning, Par Three 'Wee Monty' course at The Royal Golf Club, in association with European Golf Design. Both courses have been designed and constructed to provide an authentic links golf experience in the desert, with fast running fairways and open approaches to firm greens to promote the ground game.
Here, the desert wastes and dramatic wadi landforms entwine with and surround the pristine, paspalum fairways, giving the course a rugged, windswept dunescape. The greens are the focal point. Often dramatically large they are notable for their intricate, abundant contouring.
The ragged bunker styling gives the course the natural, eroded character one would expect of an exposed and often windy desert location. The back nine of the Montgomerie Course is floodlit; a first for the European Tour, which may come in handy on Sunday evening in the event of a play off." DP World Tour Website, 2011.
“The tour pros can’t afford to take liberties with Monty’s course and if the wind blows hard, as it often does on the island then they will have a real battle on their hands. The opening four holes played into the prevailing wind, is potentially the toughest opening stretch on tour. Equally, there are plenty of birdie opportunities, especially holes nine through 14. Par is historically a good round at the Montgomerie Course, so it will be fascinating to see the world’s best golfers take it on. For sure, they will find that the greens are amongst the most undulating ever seen on tour.” Robin Hiseman from European Golf Design, 2011
"I gave myself opportunities when I could find it. Luckily the course is generous in places and you can get away with it - I showed that." Paul Casey, 2011
"It’s beyond my wildest dreams that I could ever put two 69s back to back on this course the way it’s set up. I couldn’t sleep on Wednesday. I really thought I was going to shoot 90!" David Howell, 1999
How the weather should affect this week
Not too much wind on Thursday but wind forecast to be 25mph on Friday and 20mph+ on the weekend.

2024 Bahrain Championship Round 3 Conditions
Sunny with conditions once again breezy.
2024 Bahrain Championship Round 4 Weather Bias?
No bias but the wind looks set to blow in excess of 16mph all day.
Round 4 Outright Market Summary
Dylan Frittelli has a two shot lead and is a best price 13/10 to win for the first time since the 2019 John Deere Classic.
Frittelli has been excellent tee to green this week and leads the SG: Tee to Green stats through the opening three rounds. It should be noted though that he hasn't been in proper contention for a while now and there may be a spot of contention rust for the South African.
Frittelli has held the 54 hole lead six times in his career and converted three of those opportunities. However, it should be noted that he hasn't been able to win on each of the last two occasions.
We are certainly hoping Frittelli slips up. We advised Ockie Strydom to subscribers at 100/1 after round one and he's nicely positioned two shots off the leader going into the final round.
Eye Catching Niche Market Prices
Strydom reamins a price that would interest us if we weren't already on him. A two time winner on Tour last eyar, he has proven he is a very good closer and he looks perfectly poised to take advantage of any mistakes from Frittelli.

2024 Bahrain Championship Round 2 Conditions
As expected, the wind made life tough for the field, with the exception of Jesper Svensson, who shot a 65 - two better than any other player.
2024 Bahrain Championship Round 3 Weather Bias?
No bias but the wind looks set to blow hard again all day. Similar conditions to today.
Round 3 Outright Market Summary
We advised caution on backing Lombard and Hojgaard yesterday at short prices and it proved wise, both have fallen further behind and more than double the odds available now. The same applies to current favourites Jesper Svensson and Alejandro Del Rey at around 7/1. Svensson was outstanding today but has been feeling poorly this week and it's going to take a lot of energy to win in these conditions. Del Rey is still chasing his first DP win and hasn't overly convinced us in contention yet. Dylan Frittelli looks the best price at the front of the market at 10/1.
Eye Catching Niche Market Prices
It's not a niche market but we wouldn't put anyone off Ockie Strydom at 50/1 in the outright market. We advised him at 100/1 to subscribers yesterday but if you're not already on it looks a generous price for a two time DP winner who is strong in contention.

2024 Bahrain Championship Round 1 Conditions
Very little wind and scoreable conditions.
2024 Bahrain Championship Round 2 Weather Bias?
No bias but the wind looks set to blow hard all day and we should see strong wind players
Round 2 Outright Market Summary
There isn't much to separate Rasmus Hojgaard and Zander Lombard at the front of the market but 11/2 isn't a price we would entertain for either with the weather forecast ahead. Strong winds should increase the chances of a shock this week and we have advised some big priced outright in-play tips to subscribers as a result.
Eye Catching Niche Market Prices
Tom Vaillant Top Frenchman 14/5 @ Betfred - This looks a very fair price given how the young Frenchman played today, ranking inside the top 4 for approach and off the tee. He is an accurate driver in general and looks to be good in the wind as shown at the Challenge Tour Grand Final last year, he should be able to stay out of trouble more than most this week and already has a four shot lead in this market.
